From Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, to the legendary politics of the “Minnesota Miracle” and the “No New Taxes” pledge, our history has made Minnesota what it is today. Yet to create a future that’s as bold and bright as what we’ve enjoyed, it’s going to take new thinking—thinking that’s “outside the ox”—where we question our assumptions; where our history informs but doesn’t stand in the way of new ideas.

What do you think? What city services do you and your family use?
What would it mean for you if those services were reduced or eliminated?
How should these services be paid for?

potholes, plowing, road upkeep = Gas Tax. the latest increase was barely noticable and it was the first since the '80's. Need to keep the gas tax rising to cover the true cost of driving. Maybe we'll all become a bit more aware of what gas guzzling is...

I feel we are not getting back our state taxes to be used on our roads... I pay state taxes and property taxes to have decent service and a good infrastructure state wide. Minneapolis is out of control on spending if you ask me. Hennepin County now has the library and Rybak still wants more money. Something is not right with that picture. An building a stadium for bilionares while our services and infrastructure suffers is not right either. If our property taxes keep going up you are going to start to lose people from the cities. My sister has 7 acres in Ramsey MN and I pay more in property taxes than she does.

I do not see how LGA can be 100% protected. The deficit is too big. I am ok with some reduction, similar to past years, as long as it is fairly distributed and the state finds a way for the weathly communities to contribute to solving the deficit.

Not only do we protect LGA, but we increase it. Do not raise sales taxes. Raise taxes on luxuries, such as alcohol, cigarettes, not gas. Raise taxes on the wealthy. Raise taxes on the corporations that already receive numerous tax breaks. Why you ask? It's just not the state that is going broke, everyone is going broke. If you raise the cost of living for people who are already barely making it, crime will rise, graduation rates will decline, and we'll keep having the same people make policy who put us in this situation in the first place. Those videos on the site did not have a history piece as to how we got into this deficit. That would have been nice.
